Oikanos

Oikanos serves as a modern network of care, counseling, and unity. It promptly responds to the
needs of vulnerable groups, and their families, with empathy, respect, and professionalism.
Operating in the field of social care and home nursing, it provides free psychosocial care and
home nursing services to vulnerable groups within their familiar family environment. Through an
advanced model of secure and effective human-centric care, the organization also offers private,
specialized services including primary healthcare, social work, physiotherapy assistance, and
home help.

Our primary goal is to shape a society that’s adaptable and inclusive, with a special focus on
those who require added assistance. Through collective effort and mutual reliance, we’re striving
to build a tight-knit community where everyone collaborates to help individuals facing challenges.
Our strong conviction lies in the power of teamwork, and we’re dedicated to making a future that’s
fair and welcoming for all.

We’re among the few in Crete with patient-specific electronic profiles, collaborating closely with
attending physicians. Our up-to-date database contains medical history, medications, exams,
appointments, and social context. This information allows us to see our social impact in numbers.
Recent achievements include aiding 120 individuals with disabilities in Heraklion with 1200
monthly care hours via “Home Care for Retirees,” and supporting 50 elderly for a year through
“Home Support for Vulnerable Elderly.” We trained 170 patients and caregivers in medication,
device use, and therapy. Additionally, we provided disability benefit information, submitted
applications, served patients at home, donated medications, and developed a cross-European
healthcare integration app. From 2017-2022, we assisted 1520 individuals, conducted 780,568
home visits, and enhanced lives across multiple metrics.
We reinvest in the local community. Thus, creating job opportunities for unemployed or disabled
individuals, contributing to reducing unemployment and enhancing workplace equality. “Oikanos”
promotes inclusivity, improving the lives of vulnerable individuals and facilitating equitable access.
Overall, “Oikanos” has cared for the well-being and health of beneficiaries, and has had a major
impact on their quality of life. Every individual has the right to live with dignity, and we work
towards making that happen.

Our organization actively engages with youth because we recognize the immense potential they
bring to driving innovation and catalyzing change. Youth involvement fosters fresh perspectives
and dynamic energy, ensuring our initiatives remain relevant and forward-thinking. We are proud
to have a dedicated team of 10 volunteers who play integral roles in various aspects of our
operations. They contribute to our Social Media Marketing Team, handle Content Creation,
oversee WordPress Administration, serve as Content Writers, manage Back Office Administration
& Digital Specialization, handle Graphic Design, oversee LinkedIn Administration, provide
translation services, pitch creative ideas for fundraising, and capture moments as photographers.
Their commitment amplifies our impact and helps us achieve our goals with enthusiasm and
expertise.
